With the "VAT in the Digital Age" (ViDA) package, the European Union has taken an important step toward modernizing VAT rules. On Nov. 5, 2024, all 27 member states agreed to this proposal, which responds to digital developments and prepares businesses for a more efficient VAT compliance system.
In the Netherlands, e-invoicing adoption lags behind, especially compared to other European countries, such as Belgium and Germany, where e-invoicing via Peppol will become mandatory from 2026. In this article, I discuss why action is needed now in the Netherlands.
